Location Tagging
Sonidata can automatically tag recordings with GPS location data, embedding geographic context directly into your file metadata.
How It Works
- 1Grant location permission when prompted (or enable it in iPhone Settings → Privacy → Location).
- 2When you open the Naming View, the current location is automatically detected.
- 3Tap the location button to auto-fill the Location field.
- 4The full address, coordinates (latitude/longitude), and short address are all saved with the recording.
Location Accuracy
With "When In Use" permission, location is fetched each time you open the app. With "Always" permission, location is cached and refreshed every 5 minutes in the background — so metadata is ready instantly when you tag. Reverse geocoding converts GPS coordinates to a human-readable address.
What Gets Stored
| Data | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Short location | Used in filename | Berlin |
| Full address | Complete street address | Sonnenallee 45, 12045 Berlin, Germany |
| Coordinates | GPS lat/long (shown on Map Viewer) | 52.4833, 13.4266 |
Enable "Always" location access for the fastest metadata loading. Sonidata pre-fetches your location as soon as the app becomes active.
