Location Tagging

Sonidata can automatically tag recordings with GPS location data.

How It Works

  1. 1Grant location permission when prompted (or enable it in Settings → Privacy → Location).
  2. 2When you open the Naming View, the current location is automatically detected.
  3. 3Tap the **location button** to auto-fill the Location field.
  4. 4The full address, coordinates (latitude/longitude), and short address are all saved with the recording.

Location Accuracy

  1. 1**"When In Use"** permission: Location is fetched when you open the app.
  2. 2**"Always"** permission: Location is cached and refreshed every 5 minutes in the background, so metadata is ready instantly when you tag.
  3. 3Reverse geocoding converts GPS coordinates to a human-readable address.

What Gets Stored

  1. 1**Short location** (used in filename): e.g., "Berlin"
  2. 2**Full address**: e.g., "Sonnenallee 45, 12045 Berlin, Germany"
  3. 3**Coordinates**: Latitude and longitude (shown on the Map Viewer)

Enable "Always" location access for the fastest metadata loading. Sonidata will pre-fetch your location as soon as the app becomes active — no waiting.

Smart Location is free for all users.
